Marco Amelia (AS Livorno)

    • Marco Amelia (AS Livorno)

Ja, der alte Dauerbrenner Amelia wieder. ;)

      Italians ignore Amelia option

Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia has revealed that he’s only received transfer interest from abroad. “Is there no place for me in Italy?”
The world champion recently extended his contract with the Tuscan minnows until 2011, but he’s still available for transfer having received offers from England and Russia.
“My situation at the time being is that I only have two options, one takes me to England and the other one to Russia,” said Amelia in an interview with Il Corriere dello Sport.
“Is there no place in Italy for me? It is clear that the answer is no,” added the highly-rated custodian.
“I am not saying that I am a phenomenon and I should be a target for Inter, Juve or Milan, but I think that Italian clubs are keener on signing foreign ‘keepers because they are cheaper.”
Amelia has stated that he has been contacted by Liverpool, while Arsenal might make a summer offer, but admits that he is also an immediate target for Spartak Moscow.
“I thank them but it’s clear that Moscow would represent a different choice for me,” he continued.
“If I were to move to Russia, earn in two years what I’d earn in five years in Italy and then join Roma then I might consider the idea.”
The 24-year-old, who started his career in the Roma youth team, had already declared that he dreamed of one day wearing the Giallorossi jersey again.
That is something I am sure of – I will wear that shirt. Maybe I will have to lower my salary, maybe it will be for the last six months of my career, maybe even for free, but that will happen."
“At the time being I haven’t decided what to do next. If I do leave Livorno then I would like to take a step forward seeing as I’m already playing the UEFA Cup here.
“I cannot rule out the idea of leaving, but maybe in June I’ll still see that only teams from abroad want me,” concluded Amelia.

    • Ja er will zurück.

Da hast du wohl was in den falschen Hals bekommen.

Maybe I will have to lower my salary, maybe it will be for the last six months of my career, maybe even for free, but that will happen.

Er will schon.

    • Livorno keeper Amelia keen on Spartak Moscow talks

Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia is interested in a move to Spartak Moscow.

"It is true, I have been contacted by Spartak Moscow who asked me if I was available to move and I said yes," said the player to Radio Centro Suono.

"They are one of the clubs who play in the Champions League and playing football there could be very stimulating."

Amelia confirmed that he was contacted by Liverpool, whereas Milan have not renewed their interest despite being heavily paired with the goalkeeper over the past few months.

"The English side want me, they came to observe training sessions and I believe that they also spoke to the President, but considered the club's request excessive.

"I had heard about Milan a while ago, but I did not speak to them.

"In any case, I am pleased to know that there are Russian clubs interested in me. That means that I am known all over Europe and being part of the Nazionale helped me to achieve such a result.

"If a move will be finalised it will be done in January, but I am trying to understand what will happen in the future.

"I am grateful to Livorno and this city - the extension of the contract represented my way to thank them both."

    • No Spartak Moscow move for Livorno's Amelia

A move to Spartak Moscow for Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia appears to be off.

Amelia had already agreed personal terms over a three-year, £1.2 million-a-season, deal with the Russians before talks between the two clubs collapsed yesterday.

Spartak representatives met with Livorno president Aldo Spinelli in Italy, but their offer fell well short of the £6 million the Serie A club are demanding.

    • Amelia open to Lazio move

Marco Amelia has said he’d gladly join Lazio despite his time with both their main rivals, Roma and Livorno.

The Italian international has been linked with several sides for this summer, including Milan, Juventus and some Premiership clubs.

The latest reports suggest he is the prime candidate to replace Angelo Peruzzi in the Biancocelesti jersey when the veteran hangs up his gloves at the end of the season.

“I know that Lazio are looking for a Peruzzi replacement and I am pleased to hear my name in that list,” said Amelia.

“I realise my past will influence public opinion, but I think like Peruzzi – there are no players that represent only one side. I am a professional and if Lazio want me I certainly can’t turn them down.”

The goalkeeper is a Roma youth product, although he never played for the Giallorossi in Serie A, moving on to spells with Lecce, Parma and Livorno.

Lazio fans count Livorno as their second biggest rivals behind Roma, mainly due to the diametrically opposed political leanings of their hardline Ultras.

    • Amelia flattered by interest
      Monday 14 May, 2007
Livorno goalkeeper Marco Amelia has admitted that he is pleased to hear about Juventus and Lazio’s interest in his services.

The Amaranto is set to become one of the most sought after players in the summer transfer window and recently stated that he would welcome a move to a bigger club.

“I read about Juve’s interest in the papers, I have to admit that I am pleased to know that they like me,” Amelia told Teleradiostereo.

“It would be very satisfying to play for them, they are a prestigious club and every player would love to join them,” added the world champion.

“In any case, I still have to decide what to do in the future. I know that there are some foreign clubs who are interested in me as well, but I would prefer to stay in Italy.

“Lazio? It would be an excellent opportunity for my career, even if I played for many years with Roma,” he explained.

“I wasn’t happy when I left the club, but I am not looking for revenge. I am a professional and when it comes to this sort of thing I try to behave like Peruzzi.”

The No 1 had reportedly been ruled out for the rest of the season because of a knee injury, but has recovered faster than expected and might be back on the pitch as early as Sunday.

“I am ready, maybe I will play as soon as the game against Torino. In any case I will be back before the end of the season,” he confirmed.

“I am training and working hard, I want to do all I can to help Livorno stay in Serie A.”

Amelia, who was originally linked with a move in January, believes that Roma’s Gianluca Curci would be his ideal successor between the Amaranto posts.

“I told Curci that he should come here, I had already said so when I was close to moving to Russia,” explained the shot-stopper, who was a target for Spartak Moscow.

“A young and talented goalkeeper who does not have the chance to shine should move to another club, in order to mature and gain experience. I speak to Gianluca often, he knows what I think he should do,” concluded Amelia.
