    • Baldini is new Catania Coach
      Sunday 3 June, 2007
Silvio Baldini is officially the new Coach of Catania, announced the club in a statement this afternoon.

The side had been looking for a new tactician after Pasquale Marino opted to walk away, having taken them to their first Serie A experience in 20 years and rescued them from relegation on the final day.

While Marino is set to take over at Udinese, Baldini will take his place on the Catania bench.

No stranger to Sicilian football, he was at the helm of Palermo and had them in a strong position for promotion before a row with President Maurizio Zamparini saw him sacked in January 2004.

His greatest success was at Empoli, who he took to the top flight and mid-table safety, although recently his spell at Lecce ended in dismissal.

Catania announced that Baldini will be presented to the media on June 5 at the Stadio Massimino.

    • Zeman next for Reggina?

With Walter Mazzarri signing for Sampdoria, it’s rumoured he could be replaced on the Reggina bench by Zdenek Zeman.

The Amaranto avoided relegation despite an 11-point Calciopoli penalty and are looking for a new Coach.

Zeman has not had a Serie A position for several years and was fired by both Brescia and Lecce in Serie B.

“I feel ready to return to the football field,” said the Czech tactician this week, and Reggina could welcome him back.

His all-attack style of play has made him popular with fans, even if not particularly successful with clubs.

The former Foggia, Napoli, Roma and Lazio boss is also fond of the southern sides and their passionate stadium atmospheres.

    • Ranieri new Juve Coach

Claudio Ranieri has agreed to a deal with Juventus and his appointment will be announced at 6pm local time, confirmed the club this afternoon.

The Bianconeri needed to replace Didier Deschamps on the bench and the former Parma Coach had become the first name on the club’s list after he parted company with the Ducali.

Ranieri succeeded in guiding Parma to safety after being handed the job in January, with the club in a seemingly hopeless position, and seemed set for a move to the Premiership with Manchester City.

The former Chelsea Coach instead agreed to a three-year deal with the Turin club this afternoon and will be unveiled at 6pm , after the Milan trade market ends its daily operations.

Juventus President Giovanni Cobolli Gigli confirmed on Sunday that he believed Ranieri was the right man to guide the team in Serie A next season.

“He has the right characteristics both in terms of his career and his age, which cannot help but be of interest for a long-term project like the one in place at Juve,” he told Raisport.

“It is very important that this Coach is appreciated by the major stars in the squad,” added the chief, referring to Gianluigi Buffon’s vote of confidence for Ranieri.

The 55-year-old tactician was in charge at Chelsea from 2000 to 2004, leading the Blues to a Champions League semi-final, after coaching Valencia from 1997, guiding the Spanish side to victory in the Copa del Rey.

    • Arrigoni gets Bologna job
      Monday 11 June, 2007
Daniele Arrigoni has been named as the new Coach of Serie B side Bologna, the club has confirmed.

The Rossoblu fired Renzo Ulivieri in April and the running of the team was handed to his assistant Luca Cecconi, who led them to seventh place in the Serie B table.

“Bologna announce that they have hired Daniele Arrigoni for the 2007-08 season. The new Coach will be unveiled on Tuesday afternoon at the Niccolo Galli Technical Centre,” read a note on the club’s website.

“We wish to thank Luca Cecconi for the professionalism and dedication shown towards Bologna,” added the statement.

Arrigoni, a former defender, made his debut as a Coach with Castel San Pietro in Serie D, followed by spells with Vis Pesaro, Messina, Palermo and Frosinone.

In 2004-05, he was called to Coach Cagliari in Serie A, leading them to a 12th place finish, and then joined Torino, before the Granata’s financial troubles.

He was recalled to Cagliari in 2005-06, when he resigned after heavy protests from the supporters.

In the last season he moved to Livorno, becoming the first man to Coach the club in Europe, but was replaced by Fernando Orsi in March.

He had already been fired once by the Amaranto in mid-January before being saved by the Livorno players, who had threatened President Aldo Spinelli with a revolt unless Arrigoni was reinstated.

    • Di Carlo nets Parma job
      Tuesday 12 June, 2007
Domenico Di Carlo has been appointed as the new Coach of Parma following Claudio Ranieri’s departure.

“Parma announce that a deal has been finalised with boss Domenico Di Carlo, who will Coach the first team,” read a note posted on the club’s website.

“The one-year contract will be effective from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 – with an option to extend it for a further season.

“The new tactician is young but already experienced and is an ideal guide for the Parma project. He will be officially unveiled on Thursday, June 14 at the Collecchio training complex.”

Di Carlo, a former midfielder, replaces Ranieri after he joined Juventus just days after securing the Gialloblu’s Serie A safety.

The 43-year-old tactician started his coaching career with Mantova in 2004, after a short spell with Vicenza’s youth team.

He led the Biancorossi to an immediate promotion to Serie B and the following year obtained a place in the play-offs, where they were defeated by Torino.

Mantova, the first team to defeat Juventus in Serie B, ended the 2006-07 season in eighth place, but Di Carlo chose to not renew his contract and was replaced by Attilio Tesser.

    • Reggina Coach poached!

Reggina had announced Massimo Ficcadenti as their new Coach this week, but Verona maintain his contract continues until 2008.

Amaranto President Lillo Foti named Ficcadenti after Hellas Verona’s relegation to Serie C1, where they lost the play-out 2-1 on aggregate to Spezia.

“Verona had placed their veto on the deal, but at this stage that is null and void,” explained Foti on June 23.

“With their relegated into Serie C, the contract between Ficcadenti and Verona has lost its validity.

“The agreement was written with precise terms to take charge of the squad in Serie A or B. Now there are no more obstacles. We will officially present out new Coach on July 1.”

Yet late this evening Verona released a statement announcing “the Coach for the first team in 2007-08, based on the contract that is still valid until June 30, 2008, will be Massimo Ficcadenti.”

This could spark a legal battle if Ficcadenti is eager to buy himself out of this contract and make his debut in Serie A football.

It is certainly a bind for Reggina, who are the only top flight club still without a Coach, having seen Walter Mazzarri join Sampdoria.
