    • Montella Flying Back Towards Sampdoria
The 'Aeroplanino' could make a return to the Blucerchiati after 8 years of absence from the Genoa based side.

According to the latest speculation coming from Italy, Vincenzo Montella could make a surprise return to the team that launched him onto the big football scene in 1996.

The former international striker managed to net 54 goals for the Doriani during his stay at the club between 1996 and 1999, which ended on a sour note as the Blucerchiati were relegated to Serie B football.

Montella then joined Roma with whom he even won the Scudetto in the 2000/2001 season, helping the Giallorossi with his consistent goal scoring ability.

Last season he joined Fulham on loan and after an excellent start to his adventure in the English Premier League, injuries limited his performances, despite becoming a fan favourite.

New developments are expected in the coming days, with Sampdoria hoping to bring back another former player following the signing of Claudio Bellucci from Bologna.

    • Montella for Samp return?

A cryptic comment from Sampdoria general manager Beppe Marotta has started speculation that Vincenzo Montella may return to the Blucerchiati.

Looking to make up for the loss of star striker Fabio Quagliarella and Francesco Flachi who was sacked after failing a drug test, Samp have already signed Palermo’s Andrea Caracciolo and Claudio Bellucci from Bologna.

However, it appears that Doria are looking to make one further swoop before the season starts and it is widely believed the new addition will be Montella.

“Our new addition will be one of our ex-players,” Marotta revealed in an interview for Rai. “We’re looking at big name – a club like Sampdoria can make this kind of signing.”

Although there is no definite indication that the mystery man is L’Aeroplanino, it would be a logical move for both club and player.

The Azzurri hitman spent the second half of last season on loan to Fulham as he doesn’t fit into Luciano Spalletti’s plans.

With the arrival of Mauro Esposito the 33-year-old’s chances of finding regular first team football at the Stadio Olimpico have become even slimmer.

Montella made his name at Sampdoria between 1996 and 1999 when he made 83 appearances and found the net 54 times.

    • Sampdoria chief reveals Roma talks for Montella, Vucinic
      tribalfooball.com - July 08, 2007

Sampdoria sports chief Beppe Marotta has revealed they're keen on Roma striker Vincenzo Montella.

"The return to Sampdoria of Montella would be a great coup," said Marotta. "But for that to happen, we must find an answer to the financial dilemma, as his wages are out of range for our budget.

"But he would be the ideal signing."

Marotta also revealed: "We've also spoken with Roma about Mirko Vucinic. But they won't consider making him available - not for sale, nor on-loan."

    • Montella Eager To Sign For Samp
Vincenzo Montella would be enthusiastic about the opportunity of re-joining his former club Sampdoria after a few difficult seasons with Roma.

The new Sampdoria will have to be a chameleon, a tactically flexible team capable of changing their playing style in function of the opponent they are facing. That is the objective of coach Walter Mazzarri, who knows that his ability to adapt his ideas on football and playing styles to the material he has at his disposal.

These qualities, which he displayed in recent years at the likes of Livorno and Reggina, allowed him to obtain one promotion to Serie A and three consecutive seasons in the top flight with Reggina, who managed to avoid the drop last year in almost miraculous fashion, after the Calciopoli sentences handed them a 15-point deduction.

Mazzarri, like all others who hold Sampdoria dear, are hoping that the negotiations for Vincenzo Montella will go successfully. In this sense, already tomorrow there could be new developments as a meeting is programmed in Rome between Samp sporting director Beppe Marotta , Roma's Daniele Pradé, and Montella.

If the intentions expressed in the last few days will be confirmed ("With Roma we are working on the economical aspect: it would be an important purchase for the fans", Marotta said yesterday), the striker will be a Sampdoria player once again, for the joy of the fans who are waiting for him with open arms.

In fact, the three seasons he spent with the Blucerchiati have not been forgotten, neither by the fans nor by the player, who allegedly confided to people close to him that he would be enthusiastic to take on a new challenge in a brilliant career, which however has not given him many satisfactions in the last few seasons at Roma and most recently on loan at Fulham.

    • Montella Now, Champions League In Four Years Time, Promises Sampdoria President
The Patron of the Blucerchiati is very confident on the present and the future of the Genoa based club as he spoke during the radio program 'Gr Parlamento'.

Riccardo Garrone, President of Sampdoria, has made it no secret that the Blucerchiati want to sign Vincenzo Montella from Roma, revealing that the deal could be sealed soon.

"Marotta is taking care of this matter, but I believe that the end of the negotiation is quite close."

For Montella, this would be a return as the 'Aeroplanino' had already played for Sampdoria during 1996 and 1999, before joining Roma and winning the Scudetto with the Giallorossi.

With the near future being taken care of, Garrone has already prepared the objectives for the next few years.

"This year we are aiming for a Uefa Cup spot, but within the next four years we shall try to reach the Champions League," promised the optimistic President.

    • Montella lands at Samp
      Thursday 12 July, 2007
Vincenzo Montella could be a Sampdoria player again as early as Saturday, according to the latest reports.

Roma have allegedly agreed a deal with the Blucerchiati following a meeting between director general Daniele Pradé and Samp general manager Beppe Marotta.

It’s believed the contracts could be signed in time for him to make his debut in Saturday’s friendly against the Monti Pallidi amateur side.

L’Aeroplanino cannot find room in Coach Luciano Spalletti’s tactical system and spent the last six months on loan at Fulham.

It would be a return to the Stadio Luigi Ferraris for Montella, who scored 54 Serie A goals in two seasons with the club from 1996 to 1999.

He turned 33 last month and his appearances for Roma have dwindled recently due to injuries and competition for places upfront.

Montella is joined by teenage hitman Salvatore Foti, who returned from a loan spell in Serie B with Vicenza.

“I was with a fine squad and got to play consistently,” explained the striker. “I want to learn as much as possible from people like Andrea Caracciolo and Claudio Bellucci.”

Schön Monty! Freut mich, dass er wieder spielt! Klar es ist trauig. Ich warte mit der Verabschiedung noch bis es 100% Fix ist ;)

    • Montella Landing At Sampdoria
The Italian striker is set to sign for the Blucerchiati after Roma and the Doriani agreed to a deal which will see 33-year-old former international striker play for the Genoa-based club next season.

Vincenzo Montella's return to Sampdoria is just a matter of hours as the 'Aeroplanino' just needs to sign the contract which the Blucerchiati have prepared for him to recapture his services.

In fact, Sampdoria managed to reach an agreement with Roma following the meeting between the Managing Director Marotta and the General Director Prade.

Montella had been with Roma for the past 8 seasons and played with Fulham in England since January.

Before joining the Giallorossi, the Italian attacker played for the Doriani, therefore this would be a return back home for Montella who also won an Italian league title with Roma in the 2000/01 season.

His best season for the Capital city side was the 2004/05 season, where Montella scored 21 goals in 37 matches played.
