Luciano Spalletti looks over his record-breaking 2006 with Roma and remembers the highs and lows of the last 12 months.
“It has been a very positive year with some truly exciting moments, such as the record of 11 consecutive Serie A victories,” said the Coach.
That run of results was topped off by a win in the Derby della Capitale against hated rivals Lazio, as injured captain Francesco Totti did a lap of honour on the motorised cart while waving a giant Giallorossi flag.
“Knowing full well how much of a struggle it was for us to set that record, I must compliment Roberto Mancini and Inter for matching it.”
These two clubs are fighting for the Scudetto, but are also the most successful Italian sides of 2006, having both earned 86 Serie A points.
“The secret to our success is that we have a group interested in doing the work and also capable of creating some very entertaining team play,” explained Spalletti.
However, it has not been all plain sailing for the Roma boss this year and he also looked back at the lowlights.
“The recent 3-0 derby defeat was one of the worst moments for me. It was so hard to swallow that result, as it’s a very special game that our fans feel very intensely.”
